We are switching authentication services from EZ Proxy to OpenAthens. This may mean that our users will encounter broken links with the old EZ Proxy prefix on them.

• There is a Broken Links form on the library homepage (under Quick Links). Users may fill out this form with the link and their contact info.

• Search for the item again in Library Retriever or whichever database the item came from and create a link or permalink– these newly generated links should work with OpenAthens.

How to Fix Broken Links

Identify the URL for the broken link, then follow the appropriate instructions below.

For all links EXCEPT EBSCO, Gale, and Kanopy:

1. Remove the EZ Proxy prefix https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url= and replace it with https://fod.infobase.com/PortalPlayLists.aspx?wid=102922

2. Enter this link w/prefix removed into the OTC OpenAthens Link Generator.

3. Copy and paste the new OpenAthens link.

4. Test to make sure the link works and share the fixed link!

To fix an EBSCO link:

1. Remove the EZ Proxy prefix https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url= and replace it with https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&groupid=main&defaultdb=a9h&authtype=cookie,ip,url,uid&custid=039-170

2. Look at the link with prefix removed. If there is “authtype=cookie,ip,url,uid” this will need to be removed.

   • Example:
     https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&groupid=main&defaultdb=a9h& authtype=cookie,ip,url,uid&custid=039-170

3. Add &authtype=shib to the end of the URL.

   • Example:
     https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&groupid=main&defaultdb=a9h&custid=039-170&authtype=shib

4. If the URL does not include &authtype=shib, then add &authtype=shib to the end of the URL.

   1. Example:
      https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&groupid=main&defaultdb=a9h&authtype=shib&custid=039-170

5. Test to make sure the link works and share the fixed link!

To fix a Gale link (Opposing Viewpoints or Gale Virtual Reference Library):

1. Remove the EZ Proxy prefix https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url=

   • Example:
     https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url= https://go.gale.com/ps/dispBasicSearch.do?userGroupName=spri43060&prodId=OVIC'

2. Make sure the link includes spri43060

   • Example:
     https://go.gale.com/ps/dispBasicSearch.do?userGroupGaleName=spri43060&prodId=OVIC

3. Test to make sure the link works and share the fixed link!

To fix a Kanopy link:

1. Remove the EZ Proxy prefix https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url=

   1. Example:
      https://ezproxy.otc.edu/login?url=https://www.kanopy.com/en/otc/video/12888101

2. Make sure the link includes /otc/

   1. Example:
      https://www.kanopy.com/en/otc/video/12888101

3. Test to make sure the link works and share the fixed link!
