Copilot Sign-In

This article is for any OTC account user that is interested in using Copilot with their otc.edu account. Copilot is Microsoft’s AI tool, which integrates with Edge and Office for the Web.

Please note that Copilot is an AI product and a relatively new and untested technology. Do not communicate to Copilot any sensitive or personally identifiable information about the OTC organization, students, or staff members. We also advise checking out the Center for Academic Innovation’s Teaching and Learning with Generative AI page.

Instructions

Use Copilot in Edge

Copilot is integrated with Edge. Just click the Copilot button in the upper right corner of Edge to get started:

You do not need to sign in, and if you are on an OTC Campus computer, Edge typically signs in automatically to the OTC account you’re signed in with.

Use Copilot (Web App)

For use in any web-browser.

  1. Go to https://copilot.microsoft.com

  2. Sign in with your OTC email address and password.

  3. If prompted with the question “Which Copilot experience are you looking for?” select the applicable answer.

Use Copilot (Desktop App)

Unfortunately, Microsoft has not yet produced a compatible version of Copilot in Windows for Education. But there is a workaround! You can install the Web App as a Desktop app via Edge:

  1. If you have not already done so, unpin the built-in Copilot app from your taskbar by right-clicking and selecting “Unpin from taskbar”:

  4. If prompted with the question “Which Copilot experience are you looking for?” select the applicable answer.

  5. Click the three dots menu in the upper right (Settings and more…) or hit Alt+F

  6. Click Apps > Install this site as an app

  8. You’ll get a notification the App was installed, at which time you can choose additional options for this app, such as pinning it to the taskbar or having it start when you login:

Copilot Pro

Copilot Pro is the professional licensed version of Copilot that integrates with the Office365 desktop suite and requires approval to be granted. Please submit a Help Desk ticket that includes your name, the computer you will be using the product on, and your business use for the product. You’ll receive further instructions if the approval is granted.

Troubleshooting

Problem: I get the error: You can't sign in here with a work or school account. Use your personal account instead.

Answer: You are trying to sign into the Windows desktop app on an OTC computer. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not yet produced a compatible version of Copilot in Windows for Education. Please refer to the section above Use Copilot (Desktop App)
