Wireless Display Instructions

How to set up Wireless Display

Opening the app

Head to the start menu and search for “Wireless Display”

Click on the top result, which should read “Wireless Display”.

If Wireless Display does not appear when searching for it, it may not be installed. Please email helpdesk@otc.edu to request installation. Make sure to include the reason for installation, and the computer number (ITDT12345) in your request.

After you click “Wireless Display”, you should find the application window open on the desktop. Notice the computer number directly under the casting logo. This is what will display on your other device when searching for a display to connect to.

The application is now open and should be ready to connect.

If the application shows “This device doesn’t support Miracast…”

Make sure:

  1. WiFi is turned on

    1. Click the button in the bottom right of the screen next to the clock. It includes a speaker icon and a network icon.

      Click the WiFi button to turn on WiFi

  1. AirServer is not running

    1. Open the task tray and right-click the AirServer icon.

      Click the exit button

      AirServer should now disappear from the task tray

Connecting to Wireless Display

Keep in mind that not all devices can cast to the Wireless Display app in Windows. Apple devices are not able to natively cast to Wireless Display since it uses Miracast. You may be able to find an app as a workaround.

Windows

To open up the casting menu, press WIN + K. This will open the cast menu where you should see devices pop up.

You should see the computer number of the device you’re trying to connect to on the list of available displays. Click the computer number.

The cast function should start working in 10-20 seconds. If it continues to load for 5+ minutes, there may be something wrong. Please try disconnecting and reconnecting. If you continue to have trouble, please contact helpdesk@otc.edu.

Android

Each Android phone or tablet will be a little different. For Samsung devices, look for the Smart View function. For other brands of Android, look for “Cast”.

FAQ

What is Wireless Display?

Wireless Display uses a protocol called Miracast to connect to computers across campus. Most Android phones and Windows computers support it. It is a feature that we add to computers that need to be able to receive a cast from another device.

What does Wireless Display do well?

Wireless Display can be used for projecting drawings, that are drawn on a tablet or laptop to an instructor’s station in order to get the image on the projector or classroom display.

Can I use it for videos?

Wireless Display for video content is not recommended. You may notice that audio isn’t aligned with the video, or the video may become blurry or pixelated. It is recommended to play the video directly from the computer that is running Wireless Display.
