Send-As Another Email Address

This article will guide students and staff members who have been granted send-as permissions to an email group or shared mailbox address, how to send-as that email address. Please note that if you move computers, your computer is rebuilt, change versions of Outlook, or even create a new Outlook profile, you might need to repeat these steps the first time you are trying to send-as after one of these changes.

Instructions

  1. Start a New Mail (or New Email, in Outlook Classic)

  2. Click the From drop-down menu > Other Email Address:

  3. Fill in the email address you’re trying to send-as. This will trigger an Outlook search to find a confirmed mail address in the Address Book, but some email addresses are hidden from the Address Book and will not show up in the search. You can still free-type an email address into this field.

  4. Compose your email and send.

If you don’t see the From field, click Options and make sure the Show From box is checked:

Errors/Failures

If you don’t have permissions to send as this mailbox, you may see errors such as:

If you do not have permission, you will need to request it. This may also require approval from the mailbox or mail group owner.
