This article is to help Canvas users understand how attachments do and do not work within Canvas, and email programs where you may receive copies of your Canvas emails.

When a Canvas user emails another Canvas user (such as an instructor emailing a student or vice-versa), the message can be viewed within Canvas, along with a copy of the message being sent to the user's email address. If the message contains an attachment, the best way to see attachments is by logging into Canvas to view the message.

If there is an attachment within a Canvas message and the user checks their email outside of Canvas, such as through Microsoft Outlook, they will have a link at the bottom to download the file. It looks something like this: Image Removed

You can click the download link to get the attachment, or you can click click View this message in Conversations to  to log into Canvas and see it there.

If you need to reply to this message with an attachment, note the information in the image above: "If you need to include an attachment, lease log in to Canvas and reply through the Inbox."

Troubleshooting:

Problem: I was sent an email with an attachment but I do not see the attachment.
Answer: Find  Find out if the user sent this attachment in a reply to a Canvas message, or through an email program such as Outlook. If they used an email program, they will need to log into Canvas and reply through the Canvas inbox with the attachment.
