PowerPoint 2016 and onward has a feature called Presenter View.  When the PC detects an additional display (Projector, TV, Secondary Monitor) the PC will assume the secondary display is used for presenting to a group.  Here are some steps to enable or disable this feature.  Once you change this setting, the PC will maintain this selection.

Instructions:

  1. Open PowerPoint.  If you are in a classroom this screen should show on the PC monitor on the desktop as well as the Projector or TV in the room.
  2. Click the Slide Show tab and make sure Use Presenter View is checked.
  3. If Presenter View is enabled, when you start the PowerPoint, this screen will show on your primary monitor.
  4. This is what will be displayed on the secondary display which will face the classroom.
  5. To disable Presenter View, uncheck the box next to Use Presenter View
  6. When Presenter View is disabled this is what the Primary Monitor will display.
  7. The same thing will be displayed on the Secondary display.
