Windows Updates Issues/Troubleshooting

All OTC computers are pointed to a on-campus Windows update server, and need to be connected to the network, or connected via VPN in order to download Windows updates. Occasionally, off-network devices will need to download updates while not connected to the VPN, here are few things to look for while dealing issues with Windows updates:

In most occasions, you will want to open Settings > Update & Security, then select “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update. This should pull down the latest updates directly from Microsoft over the internet instead of from the OTC Windows update server:

 

If you get any errors like this, reboot first:

If rebooting does not resolve the issue, run the Windows Update troubleshooter:

  1. Open Control Panel, under “View By:” select either Large icons or Small icons:

2. Select Troubleshooting:

3. Select View all:

4. Select Windows Update:

5. Select Advanced then click Next:

6. Close the troubleshooter then reboot and try checking for updates again:
